Comparison
Unloq and Faculty Frontier compared
Faculty Frontier and Unloq are decision intelligence platforms that can both run in your own cloud and measure decisions against a baseline. Frontier suits teams simulating a whole process, such as a factory network, or sending decisions into their systems. Unloq suits leaders who want options ranked from their own records and a person to sign off each decision.
Unloq and Faculty Frontier at a glance
Faculty Frontier | Unloq | |
|---|---|---|
Connecting to data | “Connects with data warehouses, business intelligence tools, MLOps platforms, and operational systems via APIs” (G-Cloud) | Read-only connections, including HubSpot, Salesforce, Xero, QuickBooks, Sage and Shopify, plus MCP connectors, with emails and Slack messages beside the numbers |
Why a number moved | “Explainable AI through Shapley value analysis and metric queries” (G-Cloud) | Ranks the drivers of a change by their share of it, each calculated from your data, and alerts whoever owns the number |
Forecasting | “Probabilistic forecasting with confidence intervals across multiple trajectories” (G-Cloud) | Shows where a number is heading if nothing changes, as a range with a central point |
Choosing an option | Simulates “the impact of different decision strategies on your key business KPIs” and “helps identify optimal decision strategies” (Frontier) | Ranks options by how likely each one is to work, tested against your budgets and limits, with odds checked against your own history |
Who acts | “Supports both automated and human-augmented decisions” (G-Cloud) and can “deploy chosen strategies directly into workflows and operational systems” (Frontier) | Read-only: Unloq reads the data you approve and does not change or delete it. A person signs off every decision |
Measuring what a decision delivered | Return on Decision links each recommendation to what the business did with it and who acted, tracks “expected, committed and realised value” and shows “how the result compared with the original baseline” (Faculty) | Each decision keeps the outcome you expected at approval and is measured against a do-nothing baseline agreed before you act |
Where it runs | “Deployed into the customer’s own cloud environment”, with data in the UK and the EEA under user control (G-Cloud), on AWS or Azure (Frontier 3) | Your own AWS or Microsoft Azure tenancy, with data stored in the region you require, or hosted with Unloq |
Security certifications | ISO/IEC 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus (G-Cloud) | Cyber Essentials Plus |
Getting started | “A discovery phase to understand decision workflows and data requirements before Computational Twin development”, with a Delivery Team for training (G-Cloud) | A first project built around one decision, typically 3 to 4, 5 to 6 or 8 to 10 weeks |
How do Frontier and Unloq work out what to do?
Frontier starts by modelling the process. Its Computational Twin builds “a coherent, dynamic simulation of how work and decisions flow” (Frontier 3), so a team can test a strategy before committing. In Faculty’s view, simulation suits decisions “difficult to learn from historical data alone”, such as a first clinical trial for a new medicine, because the model can hold what experts already know (Faculty).
Most businesses we work with already hold years of sales figures and reports, and the email to go with them. Unloq starts from those records, ranks the drivers of a change, then ranks the options, with odds checked against how your past calls turned out. That suits calls a leadership team makes again and again, such as a price change.
When is Faculty Frontier the better choice?
Faculty Frontier is the better choice when you want to simulate a whole process or have your own technical team build on the platform.
Your decision depends on how a whole process behaves. Faculty’s Frontier page lists uses from clinical trial design to supply chain and manufacturing (Frontier).
Your technical team wants to build. Frontier offers Python and REST APIs and a Developer Studio (G-Cloud), plus a Plug-in Marketplace where “Every plug-in is reviewed and versioned by Faculty” (Plug-in Marketplace).
You want decisions carried out in your systems. Frontier provides “Deployable decisions integrating directly into operational systems” and policy objects “for decision monitoring, governance, and enforcement” (G-Cloud).
Your security review asks for ISO 27001. Faculty’s G-Cloud listing states ISO/IEC 27001 certification.
You buy through G-Cloud. Faculty lists Frontier on the G-Cloud 15 framework.
You want AI services and the platform from one supplier. Faculty offers AI strategy, design, development and change services (AI Services), and has been part of Accenture since March 2026 (Accenture).
When is Unloq the better choice?
Unloq is the better choice when a leadership team wants a person to sign off every decision. Unloq starts from the data and documents the business already holds.
Every decision should end with a person’s sign-off. Unloq reads your data without changing or deleting it and your team decides what, if anything, changes in your systems.
You want to start before your data is clean. Unloq connects to systems including Xero, Sage, HubSpot and Shopify and reads emails and Slack messages beside the numbers.
You want Unloq to keep score of its own odds. The odds on each option are checked against your own history, and where that history is too thin, Unloq gives no number. Each answer arrives with the query that ran and the documents used.
