Comparison
Unloq and Aera Technology compared
Aera Technology and Unloq both recommend decisions and record their results, and the difference is who acts. Within the autonomy you set, Aera can write each action back to your systems, up to fully automated. Unloq stays read-only and waits for a person to approve every decision. Choose by how much of the work you want software to do.

On recording results the two are close: Aera keeps a Decision Ledger and compares each result against the expected impact, and Unloq measures each result against a baseline agreed before you act.
Unloq and Aera Technology at a glance
Aera Technology | Unloq | |
|---|---|---|
Who acts | Automates decisions “from advised to assisted to fully automated” and “writes each action back to your systems within the autonomy you set” (Technology) | Read-only: Unloq reads the data you approve and does not change or delete it. Nothing happens until a person approves |
Connecting to data | “200+ prebuilt connectors for systems such as SAP, Oracle, Salesforce, and SharePoint, plus patented crawlers and event streams” (Technology); also Dynamics 365 (Data Cache) | Read-only connections, including HubSpot, Salesforce, Xero, QuickBooks, Sage and Shopify, plus MCP connectors, with emails and Slack messages beside the numbers |
Why a number moved | “Analysis in Aera is a glass box”, with a drill-down into the data behind each figure (Decision Engines) | Ranks the drivers of a change by their share of it, each calculated from your data, and alerts whoever owns the number |
Recommending | “prescriptive, explainable recommendations in real time, ranked by urgency and impact” (Dynamic Engagement), from seven decision engines with a built-in optimiser (Decision Engines) | Ranks options by how likely each one is to work, tested against your budgets and limits, with odds checked against your own history |
Policy and approval | Policy Studio turns policies into rules checked before a decision takes effect and sends decisions outside policy to a person (Decision Governance). Depending on the autonomy you set, Aera “waits for approval before acting, or acts and notifies the people involved” (Agentic Ambient Intelligence) | A person signs off every decision, and Unloq records the approval with the outcome you expected. Any breach of your limits shows before approval |
Measuring what a decision delivered | The Decision Ledger “keeps a persistent, traceable record of every decision made in Aera, with its business context, reasoning, policies evaluated, actions, and outcome”, and Aera “captures each result and compares it against the expected impact” (Technology, Agentic Ambient Intelligence) | Before you act, you and Unloq agree what would have happened anyway, and the result is measured against that baseline |
Where it runs | Provided “using a VPC/VNET and storage hosted by the applicable Cloud Provider”, with customer data logically isolated (security documentation) | Your own AWS or Microsoft Azure tenancy, with data stored in the region you require, or hosted with Unloq. Read-only in both |
Security certifications | “SOC 2 Type II certified, ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 compliant” (Data Cache) | Cyber Essentials Plus |
Who carries out the decision in each?
Aera can carry out a decision itself, within limits you set. Aera’s homepage headline is “Your Enterprise Decides Autonomously”, and for a decision made every day under fixed rules, such as a stock reorder, that is a sensible goal once the rules are right.
Unloq stops a step earlier, as a read-only platform that ranks the options with the evidence attached. Unloq is built for your biggest calls, a price change or a move into a new market, where we think a person should sign and be on the record with what they expected. In our experience, the expected outcome is what most decision papers leave out, so a year later the team cannot say whether the call worked. You can set Aera to wait for approval as well; Unloq always waits.
Your leadership team decides which of its calls belong with each model. Two capable teams can look at the same stock reorder or price change and settle it differently.
When is Aera the better choice?
Aera Technology is the better choice when you want software to carry out decisions as well as recommend them.
Your estate runs on SAP, Oracle or Microsoft Dynamics 365. Aera lists 200+ prebuilt connectors, naming SAP, Oracle, Salesforce and SharePoint (Technology), and its Data Cache page names Dynamics 365 (Data Cache).
Your policies need to run as rules. Policy Studio turns policies into rules checked before a decision takes effect (Decision Governance).
Your security review asks for SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 or ISO 42001. Aera states it is “SOC 2 Type II certified, ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 compliant” (Data Cache).
Your decisions span many functions. Aera lists supply chain, procurement, sales and marketing, finance, HR and ESG (homepage).
You want other vendors’ assistants to work with your decision platform. Assistants such as those built in Microsoft Copilot Studio connect to Aera through A2A and MCP, and Aera can delegate tasks back to them (Technology).
When is Unloq the better choice?
Unloq is the better choice when every decision should end with a person’s sign-off and the platform should read your data without changing or deleting it. Unloq can run inside your own AWS or Microsoft Azure tenancy, where your data is stored in the region you require, such as the UK or the EU.
Unloq also reads emails and Slack messages beside the numbers, connecting to systems including Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, HubSpot and Shopify. The odds on each option are checked against your own history, and where that history is too thin, Unloq gives no number.
